North of River Eve now available on amazon

In a world divided by Race, Class, and Allegiances, only Hate rules supreme. The Big bomb devastated a Kingdom a long time ago and left its ugly scars in the form of River Eve. A river so toxic that one touch will melt the flesh off your hand.  Karcey, a young tearaway, calls it home. When night comes, she and her cousins scavenge through the wreck of the city to escape starvation and cling to life. Karcey has never felt that she belonged. Her dark skin makes her a target for abuse. Not least from her own family members. One cold day, a man knocks on her door.  He is Professor John Grantham. A brilliant academic and highly distinguished in society. He gives Karcey a choice: Stay and continue to struggle or follow him to a place where she can achieve glory for the first time in her short life. She decides on the latter. However, upon arriving there, it doesn’t take long for Karcey to discover that Professor Grantham has an ulterior motive. The The kingdom is at war with its enemies and

The silence is not deafening

So, I realise that I haven’t been on the social media scene for a few months. Life had gotten hold of me. It is not an easy act to balance working full time, writing novels and creating art. The good news is that I have two new projects that I am working on and hoping to release soon. Check out this space because more things will be added on. For everybody writing and struggling with everyday demands of life, I salute you. It is not easy.

How I created my book trailer

Many of you may have noticed that I have a book trailer on Youtube for my book: The Damnation Plays. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHJQHrdOx68 Well, there were several stages in producing the book trailer. Since my camera wasn’t working I decided to use stock images for my book trailer. There were several sites where you can get free stock videos such as: https://www.videvo.net/ https://www.videezy.com/ https:// videos .pexels.com/ However, I wanted something a bit more polished and I found the range of stock videos limited. I had a particular vision for my book trailer and none of the free stock videos sites provided these. On the other hand, I knew that I was on a limited budget so I wanted something that wasn’t too expensive. I couldn’t afford http://www.shutterstock.com/ so I googled and looked for sites that offered quality stock videos for a reasonable price. One of the sites that I decided upon was https:// videohive .net/ . The price was attractive as each video clip worked

The 'Introverted' Writer

I found this article from the guardian very interesting. What lies beneath: an introvert’s guide to fiction – and life It basically talked about some artists, including writers, being  introverted. In an extroverted world, being an introvert can seem to be some sort of a "dirty" word. Each profession has a stereotype attached to them. There’s the long suffering artists, the scientific genius, the ruthless businessman and others. Writers are no different. People make a lot of assumptions when you tell them that you’re a writer. Som people might think that you’re living the high life. Some will think that you’re set for life writing bestsellers whilst others will think that you have it easy because, after all, anyone can write a book. I have encountered lots of stereotypes about writers. However, there are few that tackles a particular subset of writers: The introverted writer. For the purpose of this blog post, an introverted writer is self- explanatory. It is someone who is n

The part where I announce...

I'm glad to finally announce that after 8 years in progress, my book the Damnation Plays is finally available to buy on amazon. I would like to thank all my followers for their continual support. Don't forget to check it out. Now available on amazon It has been a long journey but I am glad to have gotten this far. Now, that I'd finished I hope that the sequel won't take me another 8 years to write. Chantal.

Why writing gives me joy

This is a post close to my heart. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved writing. I would write about myself, the world and the people around me. My writing back then was child-like, of course, but it brought great joy to me and it was something that I enjoyed. Then I grew up and went through some tough times. Writing became an outlet for all the turbulent thoughts swirling within my head. I suppose I used my writing as a kind of coping mechanism. Now, I’ve grown up and life looks a lot better than before I have come to appreciate the place that writing has in my life and heart. So, I’ll start by saying that putting words onto a piece of paper paper or typing your thoughts onto a word programme gives me the best feeling ever! How can I describe this feeling? Well, it feels like a heavy weight has been lifted off your shoulders.  I’ve never been the one to express my feelings but writing gives me a space to do just that. I love travelling. I’ve travelled to several different countries

Fan fiction – to do or not to do

A vital part of my development of writer is to write about everything and anything. When I was younger, I was a big fan of fan fiction and I have contributed to the fandom myself. The ones that I was particularly interested in was “Harry Potter” and “Buffy the vampire slayer” as well as the marvel comics universe. I understand that it can be a fiery issues. There are some who believes that fan fiction is not truly a form of writing. Then, there are some who believes that fan fiction is a great way to sharpen your writing skills. A notable work that started off as fanfiction was the “fifty shades of grey” trilogy. It was originally a Twilight fan fic. I believe that fan fiction is a good way to practice your writing skills and gain readers. After all, you’ve got a readily available characters and an already established universe. However, its advantages can be a curse. Unless you want to write alternative universe fan fiction, I found that it can sometimes be too constricting. Readers so

Music and Writing does mix.

I love listening to music and I also love writing. So, it is only natural to try and do both.  I know many a writers who prefers their quiet space whilst writing but there are also people who love to listen to music and write. For me, I am in the middle. Although I love listening to music and also writing, it can sometimes prove a distraction. My mind wanders when I hear music and it can be hard to juggle both tasks at once. I adore different types of music. However, I find that not every music agrees with my writing. Hence, to compromise and to find a happy medium I try to listen to classical music whilst writing. The lack of lyrics makes it easier for me to concentrate on the writing tasks at hand. I also love listening to film scores whilst writing. In fact, I prefer film scores to classical music. They are more upbeat and I believe they kind of tell a story. Hans Zimmer film scores are great. So, what side of the fence do you stand on? Do you think writin

Third Draft Blues

As you guys will probably know, I am still in the process of writing “the angels of fire” trilogy. For the first novel “The Damnation Plays” I am currently on my third draft. This means that I’ve written two other earlier versions and have slowly streamlined and honed my writing and ideas to make it into a publishable novel. However, I am aware that it won’t all be ready even then because I still need to send it to my trustworthy and friendly beta reader. I’ve written novels before but I’ve never published them. They’re somewhere hiding away in my proverbial attic waiting to see the light of the day.  However, this is different. I am planning to publish the “Angels of fire trilogy”. This brings another different set of pressures upon me as an author because I want to give my readers the best possible experience reading my novel. I’ve also discovered the flaws of my novel whilst writing the third draft. For example, I’ve got a minor character getting hurt in a pivotal scene but in the s

Introducing new comic - Ruben

I have always been fascinated by the comics as a medium to tell stories. I have always wanted to do a graphic novel once I’ve finished my novels. However, I am aware it takes time and great commitments to get one done. I can draw and write so that’s a bonus. There’s an idea spinning round in my head at the moment and that’s the spinoff for the “angels of fire” series which will focus on a new character who makes his first appearance in the condemnation games. The idea isn’t fully fleshed out and neither are the art works but I decided to upload it up on wordpress anyways. Enjoy and tell me what you think about the “teaser” which I’ve uploaded. I know the colours are bad and the dialogues don’t give too much away but I’ll explain it anyways. It’s about a guy, Ruben, who decides to cut off his engagement, throw the ring away and set up a very “special agency” in the heart of London in a fictional place called Grayeham. Did I forget to mention he has a very beautiful secretary?

When there's so much to do and not enough hours in the day...

I have been slaving away at assignments from the course I am doing at the moment. It's not surprising then that my writing has taken a backseat. Funnily enough, the assignments has the same hand in date as another professional work I had to hand in. Hence, my hands have been full throughout the week. Furthermore, I have been working all throughout. All this has made me realise what a great thing good time management skills are. I try to plan my time but it is so easy to get distracted by browsing the internet or watching the latest film on TV. On the other hand, I can't wait till I finish everything and have some time for myself. My novel, the damnation Plays is taking shape now that I am on to the third draft. I can't wait for it to be proofread and finished - that will be sweet. The Sequel, the condemnation games is still in the process of being done. However, there had been some parts in which I've been stumbling and wondering which direction the novel is going to go

Wattpad and Writing

Hi guys, I have finally jumped on the bandwagon that is Wattpad and decided to post a story onit. Whilst, I've decided not to post the angels of fire Trilogy on Wattpad, there's a similar story (think of it as a spinoff set in a similar universe but with its own distinctive taste) called Finding Anita. Feel free to click on the link below: http://www.wattpad.com/100821145-finding-anita-blood-on-your-hands?utm_source=web&utm_medium=link&utm_content=share_reading&ref_id=2977843 What happens when you let a half demon child loose? Especially one that is hormonal and see everyone and everything as a threat. Mon is no angel and his wife Penelope is anything but. However, when their daughter Anita suddenly disappears one day under mysterious circumstances each have to find their own way to bring her back. Mon literally makes a deal with the devil and Penelope enlists the help of former flame turned detective Ruben Bax. Problem is Ruben doesn't want anything to do with

pro·cras·ti·nat...

pro·cras·ti·nate (pr-krst-nt, pr-) v. pro·cras·ti·nat·ed, pro·cras·ti·nat·ing, pro·cras·ti·nates v.intr. To put off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness. v.tr. To postpone or delay needlessly. (The free dictionary) I think everyone has experienced putting off something indefinitely at least once. Sometimes you get ideas buzzing in your head but haven’t got the time, willpower or energy to do something about it. I’ve been experiencing this dreaded thing called procrastination for the last few weeks. Putting words down in my novel has been a chore. It seems strange that an idea which I couldn’t wait to write down in the beginning has become so tiresome. I wondered where all the excitement and hope as I embarked on this project has gone.  However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Like all things in life the feeling will pass and then you look down at your manuscript with renewed sense of vigour to finish it once and for all.  It’s only then that

The proper care and feeding of ideas

A light bulb moment occurs   I believe in the importance of ideas. In fact, I almost worship ideas because that's what keeps me going when I find that the first draft of my novel is going nowhere or I am at the brink of giving up. Sometimes I get ideas at the spur of the moment and sometimes it germinates in my head, sometimes for years, until it finally blooms into a finished product. For instance, in one novel that I am working on I had the idea for it since 2006. It morphed into different forms until I had the "aha" moment and decided that this was the shape it was going to take. Ideas are really important for writers for obvious reasons. Without a good idea many of the greatest novels wouldn't have been written. I have a bad memory so I find it really helpful to jot down my ideas into a notepad or into my mobile phone since ideas often come to me in random moments. To end this post, I would like to ask my readers a question. How are you feeding and caring for your

Hello world

I have decided to create this page in order for me to post snippets of my stories and drawings here as well as interact with my fans. I am a pretty creative person and think that this is an ideal outlet to unleash that creativity. I have written one novel in the Angels of Fire trilogy and that is the “Damnation Plays”. I plan to make this available in Kindle soon. I have already started work on the other two novels. Being a non-linear writer I alternate between the two novels. Hopefully, this blog can grow and become bigger. Don't be afraid to comment and post. X Chantal X
